Two line Reviews - #27

Movie:Strangers on a Train (1951)

Claps:
The amazing 'what's next' screenplay of Hitchcock,as usual.
The performance of Robert Walker as the psychotic lunatic Bruno Antony.
The foil played by Granger as the smart, tennis star who gets into trouble for no fault of his.
The merry-go-round climax!

Blips:
Nothing that came to my notice.

Overall Score:9.3/10

  1. such a simple idea....made into an ever-entertaining movie... we should really pity some of our recent directors who want to go for great ideas, only to make a mess out of it. when are they going to understand.... quality... art... quality...

  2. Yes.. That's what makes him special.. Simple uncomplicated storyline.. Orthodox yet brilliant making..

And glad that you are following these reviews.. I sometimes wonder whether to continue seeing the '0 Comments' under each of the reviews..
But what keeps me going is - I enjoy it when i read these reviews and recollect things a few days after writing them..

  3. that is the most important thing. it really feels good to remind ourselves of these great movies, we spent our time on... a revision of what was taught to us by these movies...

  4. yep great movie.. but equal credit should go to the brilliance of Patricia Highsmith, for etching out the quirky characters.. Hitchcock never writes the story.. He does only the direction and bringing the screenplay together.. his mastery solely rests on the brilliant direction..

  6. Mani - Yes. I give a score immly after watching a film..Instinct based. Heavy weightage for the concept & the way it is shown on screen. Negatives if movie has unwanted scenes. Hitchcock's films don t have them. So, the negative scoring won t come into picture. Hence the 9 ptrs and yes..i am biased :-)
