Two Line Reviews - #263

Movie: The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

Plot: When the President of a company who holds 87% of its stock commits suicide, his heir-to-be miscalculates, brings in an imbecile as the new president to let the stocks nosedive so that he could buy all the stakes and rule! Only the imbecile was unbelievably crazy that his ideas clicked big time!

Highlights:
  • This film would be right on top among the most craziest comedy films I have seen & every second of this piece of 'Coens' stamped eccentric fun was cherish-able.
  • Tim Robbins - After seeing him in serious roles in films like Shawshank Redemption,Jacob's Ladder & Mystic River, it was such a pleasure to see him do this crazy role at ease; Giving him wonderful company were Paul Newman & Jenifer Jason Leigh
  • Music, dialogues & the rib-tickling Hula Hoop idea in this film were top quality stuff - Dialogue-oriented comedy was unbelievably good! Crazy Coens - they write their films which is another huge thing to praise them on.
Comedy, Craziness, Classic!

Two Line Reviews - #234

Movie:  Mystic River (2003)

Plot: When three kids play in a lane, fate shows its ugly face on one of the kids when he gets abducted by 2 paedophiles. The kid escapes from them but not from his trauma. After years, their lives confluence under bizarre circumstances - the daughter of one of the kids in the story is murdered, another kid is a suspect and the third kid is the cop investigating the case!

Highlights:
  • This again is an admirable piece of work by Clint Eastwood. He is one gem of a film maker! The story & screenplay writers deserve their share of applause too.
  • Sean Penn is the show-stealer with his brilliant performance; Tim Robbins isn't far behind in his role of a timid, traumatised character & the cop men Kevin Bacon & Fishburne act adequately.
  • The suspense cover & the twists take this film at quite an intensity aided by a subtle background score - again by master Clint E!
A Savourable, artistic tale of Crime Investigation & Fate!

Two line Reviews - #65

Movie: Dead Man Walking (1995)

Claps:
  • The unmistakable 'counsel of hope & redemption' relationship between Sister Helen & Poncelet.
  • The performance of Sean Penn,a young Sean Penn - that too the last 20 minutes where he confesses and fears death.
  • The scenes with the family on the electric chair day.

Blips:
  • Show of a detail account of the kind of rubbish Poncelet had grown on to become would have been better.
  • It is shown that the prosecutors are given a private live viewing of the execution of a criminal - If that is how the system really works, there is nothing more psycho than that!

Overall Score - 9.0/10

Two line Reviews - #49

Movie: Jacob's Ladder (1990)

Claps:
The sequence in which the events are shown. The viewer is wrong-footed every single time. That makes this film an interesting watch.
Tim Robbins as the War veteran (?) has convincingly represented his case.
The subtle biblical references

Blips:
The explanation offered by the chemist about the ladder doesn't fit. Where does he say this? Does he say it at all?
Why does he see devils chasing him in car? An explanation is offered but is not convincing.

Overall Score: 9.2/10
