Vaaranam Aayiram is a good film. A honest attempt from Gautham well supported by Suriya s effervescent performance.
In contrast to many views, I liked the Son character played by Suriya. The role of a father was not particularly singular. There wasn’t much scope. But the weight of that character struck at the end when the family mourns.
The young Suriya (schooldays) was brilliant. He looked the part.Yethi yethi song sema scene with Aboorva sagodharargal getup and set!
On the whole it is an upper middle class urban family show that is enjoyable with some nice songs picturised wonderfully.A film of this kind needs to keep coming irrespective of whether it rakes the profits.
There have been a few comparisons of Suriya with Kamal Haasan. That is totally uncalled for. This could be suriya s best but nowhere near the Kamal classics. Maybe the physique and shades of Punnagai mannan in the second half made ppl think that way. But Kamal is in different zone.Among contemporaries Suriya has gone up front now.
We have discussed a lot abt VA ... :-) but why did you make it a point to bring up the kamal comparison and bring down surya ,man ... this is surya's moment of glory ... for his age of 33 , he has acted as well as kamal did at 33 (pre nayagan days i think).. i think everyone ll agree .. but kamal is sakalakala vallavan .. the master of all departments of film making ... surya is the master of just one aspect ...
ReplyDeleteThough they weren t of the same Genre films like Sivappu rojakkal,16 vayadhinile,Sathya..they were all much better and much ahead of time..And i cannot tolerate the 'next ulaganayagan' tag added to any actor..leave alone Suriya!
ReplyDeleteya there can only be one ulaganayagan ..
ReplyDeleteone girl said so in "times of india" ... girls have a huuuge weakness with Surya :-)
